The second annual ARTbox Derby on Saturday, September 25th brought in a sizable crowd of fans to watch six creative speed demons compete at Greenway Meadows Park while enjoying refreshments from Stewarts Root Beer.
ARTbox Derby participants showed their determination and ingenuity of design to the judges who rated cars on creativity, Eco-Friendliness, and speed. Bolstered by the roar of the crowd, each team managed to cross the finish line with the artistic creations (almost) in tact.

The concept of the ARTbox Derby originated when 13-year-old Arts Council of Princeton student Henry Sheeran asked former Board President, Wendy Mager, if the idea of putting an arts twist on the classic “Soap Box Derby” races would be an event the Arts Council would be interested in producing.
Special thanks to our judges: Wendy Mager, Rein Triefeldt and Robert Burt; to our prize sponsors: Sports and Specialist Cars and Jazams; and to Stewart’s Root Beer for the free food for the contestants.
The Arts Council of Princeton wishes to thank the D&R Greenway Land Trust for their help in realizing this event. ARTbox Derby was sponsored by Decked, the Princeton area’s premier skate shop and Sports & Specialist Cars, a full range of service for Lotus automobiles in its exclusive facility in Hopewell, NJ
