Eric Schultz has always been an artist and a tinkerer. Since the age of five, he has been making artwork for anyone who wanted it. Through the years, he has gained knowledge about art from many different sources. Other artists, schools, private lessons, and the beautiful world we live on have helped hone his artist’s eye and build experience in the art world.

The Gallery at Chapin will feature the sculpture of Eric Schultz in an exhibit entitled “Discarded Visions” from November 9 through December 11, 2009 with a reception for the artist on Wednesday, November 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“Art is nothing without people,” states Schultz. “Art springs from our thoughts, dreams, and imagination. I am a person, who truly enjoys people and their creations. This love of life and art has guided my talent, on the long journey from scribbler to creator. In my case, being an artist is to love creating artwork that evokes wonder in the imagination of the passerby, a quest for the secret story behind the object. This is why I create work from everyday found objects: ‘trash art’. Everywhere there are discarded treasures to find and recycle into new art. The old adage is true: one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.”

Schultz transforms these treasures into common forms such as animals, cars, robots, and his own special characters. “This technique,” continues Schultz “helps the viewer to identify and feel the link between the materials, the forms I create, and the stories they imagine. If I achieve this link, I feel that I have created a successful piece of artwork that everyone can enjoy.

A professional sculptor for over ten years, Schultz is currently employed at The Sculpture Foundation where he creates and installs major traveling sculpture exhibitions for J. Seward Johnson and the Grounds for Sculpture. He also teaches art classes at The Garden State Discovery Museum. His work has received numerous awards and has been exhibited widely in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in museums and galleries.

In addition to the artist reception, the exhibit “Discarded Visions” can be viewed during school hours. For questions, please call (609) 924-7206. Chapin School is located at 4101 Princeton Pike, Princeton, NJ. For more information visit the Chapin School Website
